Hello World! by Christopher Baker at The Saatchi Gallery, is a large-scale audio visual installation comprised of more than 5000 of unique video diaries gathered from the Internet.
The project demonstrates the power of new democratic and participative media such as YouTube – that enables any individual to speak candidly to a (potentially massive) imagined audience from a private space such as a bedroom, kitchen, or dorm room.
What Hello World! also highlights is the sheer volume of noise that is thrown our way these days. The internet has been one of the main drivers in enabling anyone to express themselves in whatever way they want. This ranges from video logs, photo accounts to starting businesses and even using it to gain the American Presidency.
