Film bible Sight and Sound called it “Intense and visually gorgeous”, Variety called it cerebral and sensual. John Akomfrah’s highly acclaimed film The Nine Muses screens on the beautiful big screen in the warm Rio Cinema, plus Q&A thereafter.

Social history has rarely been re-imagined as lyrically as it is in artist John Akomfrah’s part documentary, part existential sci-fi film. Inspired by Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’, THE NINE MUSES combines archive footage with amazing views of modern Arctic landscapes to reflect on the experiences of Black and Asian immigrants to the UK over a period of thirty years. The result is a unique and absorbing multi-layered quest for knowledge and identity and a beautiful meditation on migration and memory.

Bring a friend to Dalston and have a great Saturday afternoon. All four smoking dogs will be there. It will be warmer inside the cinema than outside, see you there!
