Duncan Beiny aka DJ Yoda is no ordinary scratch DJ. His seminal How To Cut & Paste series showcased a tongue-in-cheek mixing style that prompted Q Magazine to declare him “one of the ten DJs to see before you die”, whilst Hip Hop Connection voted him “one of the top three DJs in the world”.

Originally a hip hop DJ, DJ Yoda has been steadily incorporating a myriad music styles into his shows with a view to create exhilarating musical collages, from reggae to drum’n’bass, kuduro to country music – and often at the same time! – concocting an intoxicating blend with one single aim in mind: to get the party going!

What’s your favourite Disney movie? Well be it your a fan of The Little Mermaid, Lion King or Beauty and the Beast this exhibition will have a different take on your favourite cherished animated movies.

Once upon a time in the kingdom of Portobello there was a contemporary arts venue named “Graffik Gallery”. D.I.Z.N.I. will be trespassing from 17 May – 3 June.

When we think of children’s stories, two entirely different kinds of tale come to mind. Disney publishes beautiful tales with kind fairies who grant wishes and sprinkle fairy dust. These stories stem from the Victorian period, an era when the Grimm brothers’ tales were sanitised.

Tales by the Grimm brothers or Hans Christian Andersen where the storyline is dark, gruesome, a little bloodthirsty, and the fairies are naughty little bastards who might attempt to steal your children are more riveting. Graffik Gallery finds the latter so compelling that it has organised the DIZNI exhibition.

By showcasing coquettish and controversial painted cartoon characters popular images will be be stripped from the constraints of reality and their cultural significance, known for generations.

DocHouse presents the UK premiere of SURVIVING PROGRESS, directed by Mathieu Roy & Harold Crooks, as part of its year-long festival showcasing the best international and UK documentaries.

Featuring some of the world’s foremost contemporary thinkers SURVIVING PROGRESS is a crucial and compelling examination of global society, questioning our blind faith in progress, and the ‘progress traps’ which have led to the demise of past civilisations.

A host of modern luminaries – including Jane Goodall, Stephen Hawking, Margaret Atwood and David Suzuki – as well as scientists, financiers and activists, take on prevalent issues from untenable economic structures to deforestation, not shying away from controversial domains like political corruption and synthetic biology.

Inspired by Ronald Wright’s bestseller A Short History of Progress, with Martin Scorsese as an executive producer, this is a cinematic wake-up call – there is hope that our ingenuity and moral evolution can save the day but the clock is ticking…..

In 2011 Tiger Beer launched the ‘Know The Not Known’ series of events that explored unknown venues, music scenes, artists, promoters and cultural scenes of the Capital. For 2012, Tiger Beer, in association with Black Atlantic, introduces ’Hidden Depths’ – a series of club and live events that explore a different side of some of the UK’s most innovative record labels.

The series of shows will blend live and club performances across the capital to provide each label the chance to explore the influences that informed their conception, present their current leading lights and offer a glimpse into their future musical movements. Each night will be curated by the labels as they look to reveal their hidden depths.

The series will launch at fabric on Wednesday 16th May with a takeover of Room 1 by the seminal London based label Ninja Tune, with a showcase of burgeoning new talent. The spectrum of imprints and artists they are involved with will be showcased, with the Ninja label itself taking centre stage. Sister labels Big Dada Records (Wiley, Roots Manuva) and Brainfeeder (Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer) will also be represented to provide the audience with a night that delves into the depths of the Ninja Tune label.
