Science Fair™ returns for a new school year with an evening dedicated to one of the great ‘what ifs’ of the modern world. Back in the 1960’s, a promising breed of safer, cleaner nuclear reactors emerged – powered by an abundant element called Thorium. Could such designs have prevented climate change and nuclear proliferation, and could Thorium still save the world? Join super/collider and guests from The Weinberg Foundation as they explore the latest breakthroughs, followed by a screening of the recent Motherboard documentary, The Thorium Dream.

Visitors to The O2 will be treated to an unexpected exhibition, as a group of young artists take over the space outside London’s iconic music and entertainment venue to showcase their talent. 18 graffiti artists, street artists and fine artists have been donated space by The O2, who wanted to offer young people somewhere to express themselves. The exhibition, a collaboration between somewhereto_ and The Graffiti Life Company, will run for three months with the artists on display rotating each fortnight.

Ingredients:

2 cups Aunt Jemima® Original Complete Pancake Mix
1-1/2 cups water
1/3 cup creamy peanut butter
1/2 cup peanut butter chips
2 ripe bananas, sliced
Chocolate syrup
Lightly sweetened whipped cream, optional

Preparations:

1.Combine pancake mix, water and peanut butter; mix according to package directions

RED Gallery, M-nus & {ourhistory}, with support from Ontario Arts Council Pres: Matthew Hawtin. A one off London solo exhibition of this ground breaking Canadian artist. The exhibition will showcase work from 1993 to the present that was produced in conjunction with the world famous record labels Plus 8 and Minus, owned by the legendary Richie Hawtin. Original paintings, prints and sculpture will be shown that highlight their working collaboration over the years and give a unique insight into their relationship within the history of electronic music. Elements of repetition, symmetry, colour, textures and reduction are explored within the artwork of Matthew Hawtin, ideas that run parallel with the development and progression in the music releases of Plus 8 and M-nus.

Recipe for 12 pancakes:

150g plain flower (1 cup of al purpose flour)
1 tablespoon of cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon baking powder (not drinking chocolate)
1/2 bicarb (baking soda)
3 tablespoons sugar
Pinch of salt
250ml cup of buttermilk or runny plain yogurt (1 cup)
1 large egg
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
1 teaspoon of vanilla and red food colouring

What you need:
1 large bowl
1 measuring jig
1 metal skewer
1 griddle or non-stick frying pan (skillet)

In a large bowl, mix together 150g plain flour, 1 tablespoon cocoa powder, half a teaspoon each of baking powder and bicarb (baking soda), 3 tablespoons sugar and a pinch of salt.

In a measuring jug, whisk together 250ml (1 cup) buttermilk or runny plain yogurt, 1 large egg, 1 tablespoon vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon vanilla and red food colouring. Add a small blob or 1 teaspoon with a metal skewer.

Whisk the liquid ingredients into the dry ingredients and set to one side while you get out a smooth griddle or non-stick frying pan (skillet) and warm it on the stove, wiping it with a little vegetable oil first. Add small ladlefuls of the batter onto the griddle and when bubbles start appearing on the surface, after a minute or two, it means the pancakes are ready to turn. They’ll probably need just under a minute on the second side, but it depends on how hot the griddle is, so check as you go.

Serve with fresh raspberries and a dollop or two of whipped cream on top of which you have grated some dark chocolate. Finally, add some chocolate syrup.

Gavin Herlihy’s music has been a constant feature on underground house and techno’s most iconic labels for the last few years. Forthcoming releases on Visionquest, Crosstown Rebels, Culprit and Leftroom are backed up by previous outings on scene leaders like Cocoon, Cadenza, Get Physical and Buzzin Fly. As comfortable writing sublime deep house as he is at crafting no-nonsense future techno, few artists have achieved such a broad base of label support as this enigmatic Irishman.

With support from Alex Arnout, Eddie Richards, Nathan Coles and Rob Pearson all featuring, this should be an absolute cracker as per.

The refreshed (under new management) Latin Corner is giving you a mix of Colombian and New Orleans flava.
Both festivals are infamous for their energetic feel and electric atmosphere.

As Colombia’s Carlos Vives says, “New Orleans feels like Barranquilla”. These two sister cities have a strong carnival tradition, both grew up along major rivers, the Mississippi and Magdalena respectively and as such have vibrant, diverse communities that make their people, gastronomy and music so addictive!

The Latin Corner pays homage to these 2 incredible cities during Carnival time with live shows and traditional foods such as delcious Poboys from New Orleans, ribs in Jack Daniels sauce from neighbouring Tennesee and of course the to die for Carimañola cassava bites as well as Red Snapper & coconut rice from Barranquila and the surrounding Colombian Caribbean.
