A voyage of discovery of one of the all-time great symphonies, Beethoven’s era-defining Eroica. Forged as a powerful expression of the human and spiritual ideals he held close to his heart, Beethoven’s 3rd Symphony tells the story of the hero and his journey towards fulfillment.

Enter the transformed world of a heroically inspired Oval Space where you’ll greeted by the friendly team. Unwind from the stresses of your week; catch up with friends, enjoy a drink from the bar (including a delicious Eroica-inspired cocktail) and a bite to eat on the terrace; explore the space before getting comfortable for the concert, with drink in hand.

In an intimate and beautiful setting, on a comfy sofa if you feel like treating yourself and a friend, this is a wonderful opportunity to get close to the full sound of Beethoven’s orchestra and experience the struggle, anguish, and triumph of his epic portrayal of heroism through music. Nicholas, the conductor, will set the scene with his friendly introductions, sharing some of the stories and ideas behind the music.

After the final resounding chord of the symphony has died away, the bar reopens and the evening becomes social – a little party you are warmly invited to… To help set the mood, there will be some suitably cool live jazz, which we will be announcing nearer the time. Enjoy the atmosphere, relax with friends and meet the young, talented musicians who play in the orchestra, as well as Nicholas and the team.

Times:
7pm – Arrive and explore
8pm – Last admission to venue
8:30pm – The Concert: Eroica

The Tropicalista NYE party returns to Rich Mix for the best in Latin, African and tropical vibes hosted by Movimientos and Arriba La Cumbia and it’s looking like another ram-a-jam affair.

Headlining this year is Son Pikkante whose unique blend of Cumbia, Salsa and Afro-Latin roots dance music always destroys the dancefloor.

Hosts Cal Jader and Russ Jones will be on the decks alongside guests spinning vintage to future latino & tropical beats for a jump up soundtrack. To top all of that Rich Mix will look like you have never seen it before transformed into a paradise of illumination, moving image, costume, exotic decoration, as well as the Abelha Cachaça Brazilian cocktail shack.

Jack Lavender: A Hardcore Stomping Flashback @ The approach / until 31st May 2015

TIME AND PLACE:

Doors: Wed-Sun 12-6pm

@ The approach, 1st Floor, 47 Approach Road, Bethnal Green, London E2 9LY

Solo exhibition featuring a series of free standing sculptures made of self-supportive folded and bent painted steel sheets.

The exhibition also includes new double-glazed units and wall-based grids made from rebar and found and collected objects that form part of Lavender’s ongoing practice. These will be shown alongside framed collages of found imagery and personal photographs.

The floor of the gallery has been covered with tens of thousands of overlapping sheets printed with an image of mud tracks taken by the artist, seen as a way to display ideas of preservation, transience, repetition, and the passing of time. The repeated image forms the impression of a terrain to be negotiated. However, the illusion is disrupted when the papers shift and slip as visitors make their way through the gallery.

Evoking multi-layered narratives, Lavender shows how in our consciousness, imaginations of past eras exist simultaneously with our personal histories, the present, our plans for the near future as well as ever-evolving imaginations of the more distant time to come.

Installed in a disused commercial space on a busy pedestrian street in Bethnal Green this project draws together fine art and craft in a seven month local community collaboration, that culminates in a month-long performative installation.
