Hum+Buzz presents… Bok Bok feat. Kelela, Ikonika, Shy One, Morgan Zarate & Optimum +++ @ Peckham Palais / Friday 1st February 2013

TIME AND PLACE:
22:00 – 06:00

@ Peckham Palais
1 Rye Lane
Peckham
London
SE15 5EW

Entry: £6 Here, MOTD

Hum + Buzz take over the Peckham Palais with another line up specially curated by label bosses Ikonika and Optimum.

Top of the bill is Bok Bok, an artist who’s left an indelible mark on the London club scene. With the L-Vis 1990, he runs the influential Night Slugs label and clubnight. As a producer and DJ, Bok Bok’s sound remains at the cutting edge of underground club culture, simultaneously referencing the sonic heritage of 8 bar grime and classic Chicago house music. He also designs the majority of Hum + Buzz artwork, making it fitting that he should come through and bless the decks at their sophomore party.

Shy One takes the low slung framework of UK Funky and infuses it with her own fizzing synths and off-key melodies. Her unique sound caught the attention of Scratcha DVA, who released her debut album Bedknobs and Boomkicks on his label late last year. The album is a tightly infectious package bubbling with ideas, and acts as strong calling card for the young London based producer.

Finally there is Morgan Zarate, the brains behind the dazzling Hookid and Broken Heart Collector EPs for Hyperdub. The former Spacek producer uses his roots in soul and hip hop to craft infectiously psychedelic R&B cuts, and his DJ sets are not to be missed.

Support on the night comes from Ikonika and Optimum, as well as the LDN DC residents. See you on the dance floor.

Liminal Sounds are back for their fourth installment at Rhythm Factory. Bringing together two musical heroes:

SLIMZEE is a man that needs no introduction. Having played a part in the evolution of the UK underground from jungle through garage and on to grime, he is one of the best and most influential DJs of the last decade. From his early days in Pay As U Go to his famed appearances on Rinse to possession of the most sought after selection of dubplates in the game, there is no denying his credentials. If you want any further proof check some of his infamous sidewinder sets – that should be all the convincing you need. One of the fastest and slickest mixers in the game, his sets are never to be missed.

YOUNGSTAR is one of the most important producers in grime’s rich history. As the man behind ‘Pulse X’, a track widely considered to be the first grime tune ever made, and a slew of other seminal tracks like ‘Bongo’, ‘Revival’ and ‘Formula’ to name a few, he has made an indelible mark on underground music in the UK over the last ten years. Such is the power and impact of his music that these tracks still regularly draw rewinds in clubs every weekend. Still killing it with productions that range from grime to garage, dubstep to drum and bass.
