The Glass Room pop-up until Sunday 12 November 2017

A disruptive tech store with nothing for sale. Instead, it challenges you to reconsider the technologies you use every day, how much they reveal about you, and what choices you can make in our quantified society. 💻 📱

The Glass Room is a pop-up tech store with a twist. At first glance, it offers the latest in shiny digital consumer products, such as the newest tablet, fitness tracker or facial recognition software. But as you go inside, you’ll find there is nothing for sale.

Instead, as you look closer at the ‘products’ on display, you’ll see that they are playfully and provocatively selected to turn the technologies we all use on their head. The artworks, design pieces, and ‘Ingenius’ staff welcome you to take a look behind the screens into the hidden world of what happens to your data. Dig deeper into how much we reveal about ourselves!

We are in the midst of a transformation in the way we design, make and use the objects that we depend on. It is a transformation that will affect commerce, industry, and the way that we all live as profoundly as any previous Industrial Revolution. The exhibition explores how the boundaries between designer, manufacturer and consumer are becoming increasingly blurred. See some of these manufacturing techniques demonstrated in The Future is Here Factory and find out how they will change the designed world around you.

Made up of two parts – 1000 Hands and Presence – Universal Everything’s interactive digital installation is described as a ‘playful and experimental invention in sounds, drawing and moving image’.

1000 Hands is created by contributions from the public through a smartphone app. In the gallery space it takes the form of a circular projection onto multiple screens, with each one showing an individual artwork generated by app users.

First up is much-talked-up artist M A N I K, whose eclectic slow-mo-meets-electro sound was realised on Josh Winks Ovum imprint with the recent release of his album ‘Armies of The Night’. It marks the first London date of his European tour, which will see the NYC resident tout some smooth, deep and groovy magic.

Support comes from legendary tech house pusher KiNK, giving us a well-honed live set, and the latest signings to be touted by the uber-cool Visionquest label – Tale of Us. They’ve been making waves across the deep house world lately, and will be playing their moody tech-house including tracks from their recent Dark Song EP.

And of course, a DT party wouldn’t be complete without another cracking theme to ensure the mood continues right. You’ve grooved to the sounds of tech-deep and minimal house music – now, get ready for Tache-House. We’ll be bringing some facial-hair fancy dress down to shake of the stiff Shoreditch air and get you right in the mood for some pounding, technical and deep beats. See you there, be prepared to shake your follicle magic well into the early hours!

Full Lineup:

M A N I K (Ovum / Hot Creations)
KiNK (Live)
Tale of Us (Visionquest)
Ben Gomori
Lawrence Daffurn
