Today’s Camino Live Session features Awale, a unique multi-cultural band born here in London in 2009. The music style has been classed as “A Postmodern Afro Gipsy Beat” which when written on paper makes little sense. However when heard its a completely different story (You can find a video of their performance at the end of this post).

Its members hail from Tunisia, Cuba, France, Slovakia and England, with their tastes influenced by Afrobeat, Balkan music, North African Amarzigh music, Ethiopian Funk and Latin Jazz. This might seem to you and me like a bit of mish-mash, however, in actuality these different flavours are blended in a unique and pleasurable musical synthesis which with undoubtably be a pleasure to listen to on a Sunday evening.

Since their inception in 2009, they have played in venues such as Rich Mix, The Passing Clouds, The Empowering Church, The Ritzy, Hootananny, Barden’s Boudoir, Bar Music Hall and the Notting Hill Arts Club.

This is all done with the Golden Stool resident DJ’s (Volta 45 and Yaaba Funk) providing the best highlife and afrofunk tunes on the ones and twos.

Pop down to Camino to satisfy those Sunday aural cravings
