HUGH HEFNER: PLAYBOY, ACTIVIST AND REBEL (advised 16)
Plus Q&A with director Brigitte Berman
Director: Brigitte Berman. Starring Joan Baez, Tony Bennett, Pat Boone. Canada 2011. 124 mins.
The film portrays the champion of the sexual revolution, the outspoken founder of the PLAYBOY empire Hugh Hefner, and his many fierce battles with nearly all levels of the U.S. government, the religious right, and militant feminists. Hefner is revealed both as a hedonistic playboy, but, more importantly, as the man who’s been a groundbreaking advocate and catalyst for civil rights, the First Amendment, and human rights. Oscar-winning producer/director Brigitte Berman will be joining us for a post-screening discussion.
