Celebrating the centennial of International Women’s Day, Newertown’s first photography-only exhibition brings together work by five young female artists from across the world.
Added Weight is a visual exploration of how
identity shapes existence and—in turn—how existence feeds back into identity. The series on display directly address the nature of this relationship, with a particular focus on women, and the implications through subject and context, that it entails. Visually, it is a discourse on the value of such identifiers and an experiment on how they communicate with their audience.

Curated by: Juan Carlos Farah
Artists: Andrea Foti (USA)
Daniela Muttini (Peru)
Eda Aksoy (Turkey)
Michelle Perić (Argentina)
Samar Hazboun (Palestine)

As essential as the visual, is the performative, and from 28 July to 1 August, the space will come to life daily with Darkbloom Theatre’s production Scented. Six female playwrights were asked to write for three female actors with no further boundaries placed upon them. Scented is the result—a cycle of confessions from women who are disarmingly direct and charmingly honest. Not so much about being a woman, but about being human.

Performances: Thursday 28 July, 19.30
Friday 29 July, 14.30 and 19.30
Saturday 30 July, 19.30
Sunday 31 July, 14.30
Monday 1 August, 19.30
